ABOUT US
WorldSkills Jamaica is a not-for-profit organization which is housed in the HEART/NSTA Trust and serves Jamaica and the Caribbean to raise the status and standard of technical vocational education and training for career advancement and improved productivity.
WorldSkills Jamaica is a member of WorldSkills International a global hub of skills excellence, which promotes vocational education and training for young people in eighty-five (85) member countries and regions.
WorldSkills Jamaica is also a member of WorldSkills Americas which is a non-governmental organization that brings together Institutions of Professional Education of the countries from Americas and Caribbean with the objective of carrying out Competitions related to Vocational Training, encouraging and promoting the technical and pedagogical exchange between Member Countries, looking for the development and improvement of the Professional Education (comprising of 27 countries).
The 2003 competition raised the awareness of skills development and was viewed by WorldSkills International delegates.

1. A TVET system enhanced by the infusion of WorldSkills standards and practices to improvequality and develop local and international alliances with stakeholders.
2. To continuously improve the Jamaican TVET System to global standards by supporting the training systems with international standards, developing and promoting skills among youth and apprentices, forging industry engagements and partnerships while sharing the benefits of skills and a skilled labour force for personal and national success.
HISTORY
WorldSkills Jamaica (formerly Skills Jamaica) was initiated in 2001 by the then Executive Director of HEART Trust NTA Mr. Robert Gregory who coordinated an observation tour of the 36th WorldSkills International Competition in South Korea.
In November 2003, Jamaica hosted it’s first National Skills Competition at the National Arena. The inaugural Skills Competition saw over 300 competitors from over 40 institutions competing for two days.Students from HEART Institutions, Secondary Schools and Private.
Institutions from across the 14 parishes competed in 30 Skill areas from the following skills sectors: agriculture, apparel, automotive technology, beauty services, building and construction, hospitality, industrial maintenance, information technology and visual arts.
